Speakers Bureau

We can supply groups with speakers on campaign finance reform, civic engagement and more.

Adam and Jim HartOne of our underlying goals is to empower other groups and individuals working toward our goal of a government of, for and by the people of North Carolina.

In line with that, our staff often appears on radio and TV shows to talk about voting, voter rights, campaign finance reform, other elections-related issues and government reform. Contact us if you are interested in booking a staff member for your own show.

In addition, we offer the following presentations free-of-charge to groups interested in learning more about our priority issues:

  1. Understanding Voter-Owned Elections: Including why money in politics is a problem, what can be done about it and how individuals and groups can help.
  2. Voter-Owned Elections & Diversity: We have a version of our Understanding Voter-Owned Elections presentation that underscores the importance of voter-owned elections to the civil rights movement, plus a version that illustrates how Voter-Owned Elections can open doors for women to run for office.
  3. Organizing 101: This is a basic training presentation that teaches interested individuals the fundamentals of organizing others for change.
  4. GOTV Basics: We offer an overview or a comprehensive version of organizing to get out the vote, including details on managing volunteers, canvassing, voter registration, phone banking and more.
  5. Voter Registration: Before you embark on a voter registration drive, we can help you review the laws and requirements that may apply as well as provide advice on conducting a successful drive.
  6. All in the Family: We offer an overview presentation of our Take Action: Families & Kids section, including suggestions on activities for parents who want to instill a sense of civic responsibility in their children.

Democracy NC staff donate a considerable amount of their time to hands-on civic activities in addition to volunteering to speak to other groups. For example, when the League of Women Voters in Wake County sponsored a Running & Winning Workshop for high school girls that taught them the fundamentals of running for public office and then put them together with successful women candidates, two of our staff members volunteered to mentor groups of girls for the day. Three dozen young women from around the state participated and left feeling empowered enough to add public service to their lists of career possibilities.
